Over the past thirty years questions have been raised, and still remain, as to proper scope of sovereign's title, Defender Faith, in a multi-faith society. Such are not only politically important but legally important, especially they raise affecting Church England. Those need be addressed before any suggested changes actually implemented. These different from those that arise relation Coronation Oath Act 1688, nonetheless important. In spite uncompromising wording Act, oath taken by new sovereigns historically place at subsequent coronations. This has led both denials affirmations legality such changes. As similar likely take future, it is consider whether courts (civil or ecclesiastical) jurisdiction entertain challenges coronation itself, actions relevant participants.
